MEDICAL SCHOOL
During his first year of medical school at the University of Texas, Dr. Coleman began interviewing adolescents with severe facial burns. During these interviews, he realized that these children's scarred faces interfered with their ability to communicate emotions and thoughts to the world around them. He began “scrubbing in” on cases of severe birth defects as well as the burned children he had come to know. Dr. Coleman's early experiences in medicine convinced him of the importance of the face in relating emotions and the conditions of a person's inner self to the outside world. The fascination of making souls visible to the outside world by altering facial structures eventually became the focus of Dr. Coleman's career.
POST-GRADUATE TRAINING
After Dr. Coleman received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Texas, he performed his internship and general surgery residency at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans.
